Subject Matters, a popular event series from the U-M Museum of Art, returns this spring with three free events that will challenge visitors to think about art in unexpected ways.

Interacting with each other across multiple galleries, visitors will find themselves down rabbit holes and fascinating tangents in conversations posing thought-provoking topics inspired by the art on display.

David Choberka, Mellon Curator for University Learning at UMMA, leads the conversations with a new special guest during each event. In addition to being popular with visitors, the Subject Matters series is one of Choberka’s favorites: "Subject Matters has been attended by people ages 8 to 80, and they've come from a variety backgrounds and experiences. It's a great joy for me and for the instructional faculty who I invite as guests to see the participants' faces light with the delight of learning together. Finding meaning and community together through social engagement with art is at the core of the work of UMMA University Learning and Programs.”

Save a spot on your calendar for upcoming Subject Matters events–you don’t want to miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in art with your neighbors.

Subject Matters is offered in collaboration with the U-M faculty who worked with UMMA to curate installations in the ongoing Curriculum / Collection exhibition. For each session, visitors will join UMMA curator Dave Choberka along with a guest U-M professor for often surprising and always meaningful discussion.
