Celebrate Japan Week at UMMA This June

UMMA celebrates the Center for Japan at U-M's Japan Week from June 18-24 with two Family Art Studio sessions on Thursday, June 22 and a Storytime at the Museum on Saturday, June 24.

Japan Week - Family Art StudioCreate your own art project inspired by the beautiful artwork in UMMA's Japanese Gallery.

Local artist and long-time UMMA docent Susan Clinthorne will lead families on an exploration of the Japanese gallery followed by a hands-on workshop. Designed for families with children ages six and up to experience art together.

Pick from two sessions: 11 a.m.–1 p.m., or 2–4 p.m.

Registration is free, and required: email umma-program-registration@umich.edu. Please include date and title of program in the subject line of your email. Indicate if you would like to register for the 11 a.m. session or the 2 p.m. session and how many adults and children are in your group.

For Storytime at the Museum, on Saturday, June 24 at 11:15 a.m., children ages four to seven are invited to hear a story based on work from UMMA’s Japanese collection in the galleries. Stories will be followed by a short activity responding to the art on display. Parents must accompany children. Siblings are welcome to join the group. Meet in front of the UMMA Store.
