Make Your Voice Heard at UMMA
Election Day is Nov 8
In the lead up to the 2022 U.S. midterm elections and beyond, UMMA is partnering with local, regional, and national organizations, designers, and artists to transform Museum spaces in the name of civic participation and engagement.
In partnership with the Ann Arbor City Clerk’s Office, the Creative Campus Voting Project is collaborating with UMMA to turn your art museum into an election hub — register to vote, get your ballot, access voting resources, and celebrate participation. In addition, visiting artist Philippa Hughes will host a dynamic and deeply engaging series of experimental social events across UMMA’s galleries, creating space for authentic and honest conversations between politically diverse people.
Registering and Voting at UMMA
The satellite Ann Arbor City Clerk’s Office at UMMA allows Ann Arbor residents (including students living in Ann Arbor) to register to vote in all federal, state, and local elections. Stop by during open hours and our helpful guides will walk you through the entire process!

Fridays: 12-4pm
Additional hours will be available during election week:
Saturday, Nov 5 : 12-4pm
Monday, Nov 7 : 10am-4pm

Can’t make it to Central Campus? The Duderstadt Center on North Campus is hosting an Ann Arbor City Clerk’s Office satellite installation as well. More information will be posted here when available.
Voting at UMMA is organized by the Creative Campus Voting Project
U-M Stamps School of Art and Design faculty Stephanie Rowden and Hannah Smotrich founded the non-partisan Creative Campus Voting Project (CCVP) in 2018. Using insights from behavioral science, they design vibrant civic spaces, experiences, and materials to educate and energize college-age voters.
At UMMA, CCVP is extending their 2020 Stenn Gallery installation into an expanded experience that supports voters, empowers peer-to-peer learning, creates community, and prompts action!
Resident Artist Philippa Hughes
About the Artist
Philippa Pham Hughes is a social practice artist. Her work centers on social interactions and relationships, not making objects. Her multi-disciplinary projects make use of ideas and insights from political and social science research in an effort to repair America’s frayed social fabric.
At UMMA, Hughes presents a series of dynamic and innovative social events that create space for human connection and meaningful interpersonal interactions.
