Queer Night at UMMA to close “Oh honey…” Exhibition with a Bang

The University of Michigan Museum of Art is hosting Queer Night @ UMMA, a reception on February 18th, from 6–10pm, to commemorate the the closing of the exhibition Oh, honey…A queer reading of UMMA’s collection. This event is for all ages.
Queer Night @ UMMA will feature a variety of activities, including a workshop with Philadelphia-based artist Marcellus Armstrong, a performance by the OutLoud Chorus, tarot readings with artist Emmy Bright, and a special screening and discussion of UMMA’s “The Sex Ed Class You Never Had” video series. Though connected to the Oh, honey… exhibition, events will take place throughout the entire museum.
Oh, honey…, which closes on February 20th, consists of photographs, paintings, and sculptures from UMMA’s permanent collection. Curatorial fellow Sean Kramer asks, “How does my own situated point of view, as a queer man / graduate student / art historian at the University of Michigan, frame my reading of what is present and absent in this collection?”
Queer Night @ UMMA celebrates the Oh, honey…, exhibition and also aims to provide a fun and inclusive space for queer community members and allies, to come together and honor self expression.
Attendees who are 18 and up will also receive free admission to The Necto’s Pride Friday to keep the celebration going. Show your UMMA wristband to get in with no cover fee from 9pm to midnight. (Valid ID required. See www.necto.com for additional detail on their policies for entry).
